A little about me...

I'm an oil painter based in the West Midlands, UK (b.2001). I'm interested in depicting all aspects of life, with a primary focus on landscape work and animal portraiture. My loose style is inspired by the effects of the weather and the changing seasons, exploring how atmosphere shapes the feeling of a place. My work centers on animals observed within everyday environments. I am drawn to moments that might otherwise go unnoticed, e.g. a pigeon perched on a rooftop aerial, a mouse emerging from a drain cover or birds gathering on a pavement. Focusing on animals allows me to ground myself in the world around me and pay closer attention to subtle details within my surroundings. Through direct observation, I become more aware of shifting light, small movements and quiet interactions which are often overlooked. Rather than isolating animals in portraits, I place them within their environments, exploring how atmosphere alters perception. Light plays a central role in my work; it can soften forms or heighten contrast, transforming an ordinary scene into something contemplative. There is a strong relationship between my imagery and my materials. I use layered, gestural oil paint to echo the textures I observe: the build-up of light within fur, the velvety density of short hair or the iridescent sheen of feathers. The physical handling of paint mirrors the tactile qualities of the animals themselves, reinforcing my intention to make the familiar feel present and quietly significant.

In 2024, I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Art History from Newcastle University, where I developed a fondness for plein air painting which continues to underpin my practice. After graduating, I dedicated a year to refining my technical and observational skills.
